DPI/QoS Deployments (20): MWEB [South Africa] Uses PeerApp to Improve QoE

  
PeerApp, a media caching vendor, announced "that it has achieved its 100th customer, MWEB, a leading Internet Service Provider in South Africa. MWEB has deployed the PeerApp UltraBand 5000 to improve their subscribers’ Quality of Experience (QoE), increase network efficiency, and reduce international transit costs."

Deploying a content cache solution requires a network element that will redirect cacheable traffic (P2P, streaming video) to the caching system (like PeerApp's UltraBand 5000).

In order to be efficient, and avoid the redirection of irrelevant traffic, a DPI device is often used. The DPI device will also ensure that the costs savings achieved by caching are maintained by controlling P2P traffic on the transit or peering links.

PeerApp is partnering with several DPI vendors (Allot, Sandvine and Arbor Networks/Tektronix Communications - here) in order to introduce a complete solution.
